British Home Stores, BHS, was first founded nearly 100 years ago, in 1928. The company started in London, although it was actually started by a group of American entrepreneurs. They aimed to bring US clothing and household items to the UK market. The premise was successful and for many years the company flourished. There were as many as 163 stores located across the UK. However, after Sir Phillip Green bought the business in 2000 it experienced several loss-making years.
