The first Forbidden Planet store was opened in 1978 in London. The store was founded by Mike Lake, Nick Landau, and Mike Luckman. The store did well but it had serious competition from Dark They Were and Golden Eyed, owned by Derek Stokes. They closed down in 1981, leaving the field open for Forbidden Planet.
