High & Mighty started trading in 1956 in Hull. Its founder, Bernard Levy was a tailor who decided to start a mail-order company selling clothes. Its target audience was men and the business proved to be a success. In 1959 Bernard Levy opened his first physical store in London. At the time it was known as Northern Outsize Menswear. In the 1970s the name was changed to High & Mighty and the business opened two stores in the US, although it later closed them. The 1990s saw Bernard’s daughters take over and the company expanded across Europe. It also launched a streetwear brand, Kayak. Unfortunately, financial pressures in 2008 due to increased internet competition meant the company was sold to the N. Brown Group.
