In 1860 Edouard Heuer started a company called Uhrenmanufaktur Heuer AG. He specialized in watchmaking and patented his first chronograph in 1882. This was followed in 1887 by patenting the oscillating pinion. This technology is still used by watch manufacturers today. By 1914 Heuer was offering wrist chronographs as well as pocket ones. He also introduced the first stopwatch. In the 1930s and 1940s, the company ventured into automobiles and aviation. By the 1950s the Heuer was the most popular watch for automobile racers. They even had the first Swiss watch in space in 1962. The company continued to build on its success throughout the second half of the twentieth century. In 1985 the TAG group purchased 50.1% of the stock and the brand became known as TAG Heuer. It continues to be one of the best and most popular watches in the world.
