The Klondyke story begins in the mid-1980s when Bob and Dorothy Gault started a business selling plants. They had just one greenhouse in Kirkintilloch. The single greenhouse was actually on an existing garden centre. They bought the site to create a camping supplies company. But, as they both naturally had green fingers they found that the garden centre started to flourish. This success encouraged them to expand the original site as much as possible. They then expanded further by purchasing new sites and, in 1996, they merged with the William Strike Garden Centre group.
