In 1856 George Henry Hinds opened a small store selling high-quality jewellery. At the time it was a risk as his father and uncle were both clockmakers. The store was successful and he passed it onto his sons. They split the business in two, Frank carried on selling jewellery while his brother, William, co-founded Hammer Film Productions. The jeweller business grew steadily and passed on from father to son. Today, it is still owned by the Hinds family, currently the sixth and seventh generations. In fact, Andrew Hinds is part of the sixth generation and selects all the diamonds for the company. He is a fellow of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain.
