In 1965 Alan Stillman noticed that the area of New York he lived in was full of air stewardesses, models, and other fashionable people. Many were single so he decided to open a bar in the hope of meeting women. Surprisingly, at this time there was no public place for men and women between 20-40-years-old to meet. He used his savings and borrowed money from his mother to purchase a bar and renamed it TGI Friday’s. It served alcohol and a standard American menu.
